Experience I am a Honda automobile technician with twenty years of new car dealership experience. My first few years as a Honda tech date back to when Honda cars were still offered in carburated models. In the last few years, I've been exposed to the integration of hybrid powered cars, the Natural Gas powered GX Civic, and electronic features ranging from voice activated GPS navigation to power sliding doors. I have been certified as an ASE Master Technician and passed the L1 Advanced Engine Performance test in 2000. I opened my own independent import repair shop specializing in but not limited to Honda automobiles in 2008. Operating my own shop has re-energized my enthusiasm for automobiles.

Question Hi Gary.
I was surfing the web to get any kind of answer,cause my boyfriend is having trouble with his 1990 manual Honda accord ex. The problem seem to be that every time he start the engine it'll make this weird sound like the car is having a hard time starting up. As if the car is going to die, but then in about 20-30 second or so the car will finally start up. When the car finally starts up my boyfriend usually gas it up so that the car will have more power. I don't know if this is enough to help you to understand what's wrong with the car,but I'm no expert on cars. I appreciate your kindness and thank you!
Answer Sweede, I'll need you to answer a few things about this Accord. Before he gets the car running, rotate the ignition key until the gauges power up and watch the check engine light. Pay close attention to any sounds while observing the check engine light. You should hear a clicking sound under the dash and then another click after 2 full seconds. Another question I have is if the check engine light is on after the car finally starts? Check these things out and get back with me and I'll see if I can help. Gary
