Honda Repair - 94 Honda Civic Ex Horn

Expert: Ara - 2/21/2008

Question
My Civic's horn broke a few months back but then suddenly started working again, then once again stopped working. I have checked the switches and current is flowing through them. I also check the switch regulator with a meter and it also appears to be working. My only question is whether or not you have heard on anything like this happening and if i should just replace the horn?

Answer
Yes I have seen some horn units not work intermittently.
Sometimes if they get enough water in them it will rust the inside part of the horn & will create enough resistance for the horn plates not to be able to move.
The ambient temperature seems to make a difference in this case, where the horns will work in warmer weather rather than colder.
I would try spraying some silicone in between the inner & outer plates & see if that would make a difference. If it does then do change the horn.
