Honda Repair - passenger docked won't open from inside

Expert: Ara - 2/24/2008

Question
QUESTION: our 2008 honda coupe passenger door won't open from the inside but does open from the outside. What could be the problem  we tried looking for the child lock but were unable to locate it.
any solutions? thanx

ANSWER: The mechanism that holds the door latch rod to the inside portion of the door may be broken or out of place.
Any Honda dealer will be happy to take care of this problem.
That should be a warranty issue.

QUESTION: we had the problem fixed by honda (tech found right inner door cable came off.
tech reattached and adjusted door cable. however; we just came home and the
same door will not open from the inside. are we looking at a bigger problem
here? thanx, fred

Answer
First of all, let me tell you that I truly dislike the new door panel/inner door handle cable design on the 03-08 Honda's.
It is an attempt to "Save" on assembly costs.
There are three possibilities:
1)Inside door handle cable. Plastic retainer may be distorted or broken.
2)Inside door handle. U-shaped retaining area may be bent.
3)Door latch. Unlikely cause but possible.
