Honduras - Getting from Roatan to Utila and back

Expert: JRA - 8/13/2008

Question
Hello,

I will traveling to Roatan 09/20/08. I will be spending a week on Utila then a week back on Roatan (diving on both islands). I know there is a ferry that goes from Roatan to La Ceiba then back out to Utila, but is there one that just goes from Roatan to Utila without going through La Ceiba? If there is, could you give me some more information on it, price? size of boat? number of passengers and any luggage limits.  I can get seasick so the size of the boat and the length of the trip does matter to me.

Thank you for your time and info,
Shauna

Answer
Hi,

I know that there are two ferries, one goes from La Ceiba to Utila and the other goes from La Ceiba to Roatan.  I don't think that there is a Roatan-Utila ferry.  Both ferries cost around $12 each way, they are pretty big boats, I wouldn't worry about seasickness. It's about a two hour ride from Roatan to La Ceiba and 1 1/2 hour from La Ceiba to Utila.

If that doesn't work for you I'm sure that you can find smaller boats that would take you between both islands although they're probably going to charge you a little more money.

have a nice trip!
