Honduras - Driving in Honduras

Expert: JRA - 5/24/2004

Question
I am currently planning a driving trip through Central America and am curious about the safety of a venture like this, especially in the country of Honduras.  What is it like throughout the countryside and at the borders.  Thanks for your response.

Answer
Hello Angie,

Three things:
Don't travel alone
Don't travel at night
Don't stop frequently on the road. Try to get to your destination without too many stops.

It isn't dangerous but you have to be careful.  Roads in Honduras are mostly two way roads, you need to be very careful with bad drivers who may cut you off.  Also be alert when going thru small towns.  People tend to cross roads without looking.

There are Police posts at the borders, and there is a lot of activity at these posts.  I don't think that you will have any problems.  If you need help there probably will be people to help you.

Write if you have any more questions.
