Question I have two Children International sponsor children living in San Pedro Sula. I will be on a cruise in March that will dock in Santo Tomas De Castilla, and since it's so close, I'd love to make the trip to San Pedro Sula to see the children. Is it safe? I don't see any highways on the map crossing in that area....what are the roads like? How much time would you recommend allowing for a trip like this? Thanks for your help!
Answer Hello, First of all, Santo Tomas is in Guatemala so you'd have to cross the border. You shouldn't have any problems if you have somebody who knows the way. It's about a 3 hour drive on a good 2-way highway. Depending on the time you want to spend with the children you should take two days since it's not safe to travel at night in the Guatemalan side of the highway.
