Honduras - Getting to Utila

Expert: JRA - 7/10/2007

Question
Hi JRA,

I'm flying in to SAP and will arrive around noon. what is the safest/best way for me to get to utila?
would i need to spend the night at la ceiba?
is it safe for a solo female traveler?

Technically i would take a bus from SAP and then take a ferry from La ceiba. But how would i get from the airport to the bus station and from the bus station to the dock?

If i have no spanish comperhention at all will i survive?

Thanks

Answer
It's definitely harder if you don't speak any spanish!  It would be much simpler and safer to just fly to Utila from SAP: flights leave Mon, Wed Fri at 2:30 PM, returns Tu, Thur, Sat at 6:00 AM.  Round trip is about $200 Sosa Airlines

If you want to take the bus and the ferry you would have to take a cab from SAP airport to downtown, take the bus to Ceiba, sleep in Ceiba because the ferry leaves really early, take a cab to the dock and do the same thing on the way back.

Hope this helps and hae a nice trip!
