Question
Hi Lindsey
My parents honeymooned in Bermuda way back in 1946.  As much as I can tell from their photo album, they stayed at the Hotel Buena Vista in Paget.  There is a picture of them in front of a Catholic Church and receipts from Frith's' Liquors on Reid Street, Hamilton and The White Horse Luncheon Menu in St. George.  My dream has always been to visit there and try to find one or two places and recreate the photo.  My husband and I will celebrate our 20th anniversary in August 2009.  My Mom died in 1974 and my Dad died in 1994 so I don't have anything but this album to go by.  Do you have any suggestions on where to stay, or who to call about history in Bermuda, and it's possible for us to cruise from Charleston, SC and stay on the ship for our accommodations.  Your help would be stellar!

Answer
Hi Diane,

Wow!  That sounds very romantic.  I would like to say that they might have been in the Hamilton area because that has always been the most popular, but 1946.  That is a stretch for me because I was still back on the "lily pond" you might say, way on the pond!  What I would suggest is contacting the Bermuda Tourism Board, http://www.bermudatourism.com/index.aspx  to see if they can help you located those places from the past.  Since they are goverment run they might be able to look into back building history for you, or better yet point you in the right destination.  That would be my first step.

As for the cruise ship yes there are some going there that you could use for a resort which I have to say is the best way to go, however I am not going to give you a 100% sure bet on that right now.  They have been changing this route to departures out of New York City too, so they might change it by August 2009.  I know too that not all of the cruise ships have their rates and routes out for that destination yet, so you might have to wait another month to get a better overall picture.  But I have to warn you when they do come out, the rates go fast.

Honestly I prefer that method because you can see much more and you only unpack once.  Plus some of the resorts here are not up to the  standards they once where or they are charging such a high rate.  So it is best to do the cruise.  That way you have a breakfast and dinner included.  Then all you have to worry about is lunch and what to do during the day.  It makes your life easier which is what a vacation is all about!

I hope that gives you a start!  Let me know what you find out regarding the Tourism Board.  If not we can always find another way.  It sounds romantic what you are doing!  If I could be of further help just let me know at lindsay@tripsdowntheaisle.com.

Best wishes,
Lindsay
