Honeymoons - Romantic Getaway to Napa or Sonoma

Expert: Pamela Smith - 7/20/2008

Question
Hi Pamela, I'm trying to plan an anniversary trip for my girlfriend and I to NorCal wine country.  I've never been there before but I've heard how romantic the area can be and we're both wine lovers.  Could you give me some advice as to where we should go in particular or how I can go about planning the trip?  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Answer
I too love the wine country and I am a self proclaimed wine snob :-)

There are two options to fly there, and that is into the San Franciso area, which is a good idea if you have plenty of time, as I would recommend at least one night in San Franciso. You definetly want to rent a car, and to add to the romance...get a convertible!  Then from San Francisco the drive to Napa is about 2 hours, and a gorgeous drive it is!

As for accomadations, there are lots of little bed and breakfast type places to wonderful larger properties like Hyatts and Marriotts.  Even the bigger resorts have that wonderful romantic feel.

My favorite wineries in Napa:

(stop at a local deli and grab some stuff for picnic lunch, as you will want to buy a bottle and sit at one of their picnic tables as the view is amazing!)
