Honeymoons - Dominican Republic

Expert: Cindy Grant - 7/28/2009

Question
I'm thinking of traveling to the Dominican Republic (specifically La Romana) sometime in September maybe even early October.  Is it a good time to go as far as weather and people?  I'm not interested in going if most resorts and nearby communities are going to be empty and quiet. I am also aware that it is hurricane season.  Should that be a major concern for me?

Answer
Hi Jennifer,
In terms of what type of people you'll encounter, I'd say that has more to do with the resort you select rather than the time of the year.  September and October are prone to hurricanes in the Caribbean, so I would recommend purchasing travel insurance.  Barring tropical storms/hurricanes, the weather should be nice in the fall.

Fewer people travel in the fall than in any time of year.  So, you'll see the best travel specials in that timeframe, and lower occupancy rates as compared to high season, which runs from Christmas week until just after Easter.

Best regards,
