Honeymoons - Vacationing in October

Expert: Cindy Grant - 8/4/2009

Question
I can't decide which destination would be best for travel in late September into all of October.  Negril, Jamaica or La Romana DR.  Can you possibly tell me the pros and cons of each place?  I've finally narrowed it down, but still can't make a decision!!  What seems to be bugging me is if the island would even be filled with tourists.  Thanks!

Answer
September - October will be hurricane season for any of the Caribbean islands, which is something to consider.  To travel during this time period, I would recommend travel insurance.

Also, the fall is the slower travel season for Caribbean, so the occupancy level will be lower compared to the high season (Christmas week - Easter week).

Negril Jamaica and La Romana/Punta Cana DR will be very similar.  The bigger differences will be in the resorts themselves.  I assume you will be staying at an all-inclusive resort, so your focus will be more about the resort -- the meals, rooms, size of the resort, beach at that resort, activities at that resort.  There can be quite a bit of variation.

Hope that this helps you,

Cindy Grant
