Question Hello, next October my future wife and I would like to go to Bermuda for our Honeymoon. We have a $4000 budget for the entire trip wich includes food and spending money. I would like your help on ideas on where to stay if we went? We are open to small hotels, Bed and Breakfast's and also privatly owned cottages/apartments are good also. Can you name some places that you know of and also areas on the island that are safe and nice? We will be renting a scooter so bus and ferry schedule are not important. Would you recommend cottages/apartments? Thanks for you help and your time. I look forward to hearing back from you. If you don't think it is possible to take a week honeymoon in Bermuda please feel free to say that. Also if you have any other islands that you know of that you can recommend that would be great to hear. Thanks again.
Andrew
Answer First of all congratulations on your engagement! October is a very beautiful time to get married in. I know that is when I did it.
So lets get to your Bermuda questions. First of all want you to know that October is when they see the most rain, plus it can dip down at night into the high 60's. Keep in mind that Bermuda is up by the Georgia and Carolinas, so you could see cooler temps in the evening hours or depending upon when you go towards the latter half of the month. I always advise my clients that because Bermuda does look like a Caribbean island, so it is best you know that now, not when you get down there.
As for interesting places to stay I would say the three that I have sent to clients to in the past couple of months, who came back with glowing reviews are 9 Beaches, Pompano Beach Club and Pink Beach Club and Cottages. All have a wonderful management who really cares about the people stepping threw their doors. The 9 Beaches is a funky place where they are huts built all over the resort area, over the water, hillside and right at the beach. I do have to advise you the walls are tent like but that truly adds to the nature of it because you have regular doors and windows. In October you will not have a problem with the AC but if you where going in August I would not suggest the place. The only B & B that I have booked in the past has been Mazarine by the Sea, which they loved. I must admit that it was the client that found that one, but they came back with all of the information and advised me to book it for others.
As for the safety of the island, I truly have not had an issue any times that I have either travel there myself or had clients there. There was not an occasion that I felt any concerns, even in the outlying places.
One thing I will say that Bermuda is not for people who like to have a wide long walking beach. Many of the places have either a very small one or cliffs or one they share. This is not the destination to have those long stretchs of beach. And some have a small beach area that you are fighting for space there. I saw you would be renting a scooter, which might leave you to staying at places within the two major cities to get around. Is this a concern for you?
If I was to suggest another destination(s), I would go to Antigua, St Lucia or even Curacao. All of those places have wonderful smaller inns, great places to explore and warmer weather then Bermuda. But I am not going to into them too much until I hear back from you regarding what you think of those destinations.
It is hard to give you a pinpoint regarding the price range because I do not know the city you will be departing out of, which could take up much of your budget. But I do have to warn you that food in Bermuda can be a bit pricy. There are some resorts that belong to the Bermuda Collection where you can prepay for breakfast and dinner, then at dinner have the choice to go outside of the resort you are staying at to each at another venue.
Well that should be some information to give you a start with your search. Since you are more then a 1 year in advance you will not be able to find the airfare prices or maybe not be able to book where you stay, however you can use this year's rates as a guideline. That way you can budget on what you want under $4000. Let me know if you have any further questions!
