Honeymoons/Budget honeymoon
Expert: Cindy Grant - 7/23/2007
QuestionQUESTION: Hi, my fiance and I would really love to go out of the states for our honeymoon. We will be going from about the end of June to the beginning of July. We were hoping to be able to stay for a week to preferably a week and a half. We would also like to stay under the budget of $2000 if possible. I have no idea what the average honeymoon costs. Please help. We are looking for beaches and adventure (hiking, waterfalls, biking, rafting, snorkeling, etc.). All inclusive could be fun but we are really looking for nice/clean/romantic and within our budget. We are also looking for at least decent weather. (We were looking at Belize but it looks like a lot of rain at the end of June) Thanks so much!

ANSWER: Hi Tiffany,
What city/airport will you be departing from? Air pricing can vary a great deal, depending on your departure city. Based on that additional information, I can give you some recommendations.

QUESTION: We can depart from San Francisco, San Jose or Oakland airports in California...whichever one is more affordable.
AnswerFrom the west coast, the best bang for the buck will be either Puerto Vallarta (my first recommendation) or Cabo San Lucas (my 2nd recommendation). If you do decide on Cabo, keep in mind that in the summer months, it can get pretty hot in the middle of the day.
In my experience, the average honeymoon is anywhere from $1800 to $5500. You can keep within your budget of $2000, provided that you stay one week (instead of 10 days), and opt for an all-inclusive resort (a much better value overall).
Puerto Vallarta has some excellent resort options (Golden Crown Paradise and Riu Jalisco for example). Also, there is plenty to do and see in this area. Do keep in mind that excursions (such as snorkeling tours, mountain hiking treks, etc) will add to your trip cost.
Also, wait to book your June 2008 package until around September - November. Promotional pricing will be available then, for summer '08, and you are booking early for best availability.
