Horror Film - trying to remember a movie...

Question
so when i was a kid (i'm 23) i remember seeing a really scary movie. many of the details are vague, but i will try to describe what i can. it had to be 80's. there was a house. most of the movie took place at night. there were several people around. i remember that the house was pretty dark inside, but there was alot of red (red lighting?). there may have been a broken down car outside. my parents were strict with what i saw, so it may not have been rated r or even pg-13. i know this is really vague, but if anyone knows, i would really appreciate it. i have been trying to remember for almost 2 years now!

Answer
With the very little info, nothing comes to mind except for Hell Night from 1981, it stars Linda Blair who was in The Exorcist. It takes place in a big mansion. I think there might have been some red lighting involved. You could also try some of these films from the House series.

House (1986)
House II: The Second Story (1987)
House III: The Horror Show (1989)
House IV (1992)

Hope that helps. If you can remember anymore, pass the info along.
