Question
Hello. I'm Maddison and I have always wanted to become a race horse trainer. I was wondering, what college did you go to? How many years were you there? Is there any other colleges that you'd recommend? Did you start out as a groom before you became a trainer? I hope that you can answer these questions of mine, because they will help me greatly. Thank you so much.

Answer
hi maddison . there is no college  that i know of to go to to become a horse trainer. i worked my way up from working on a horse farm, cleaning stalls, hot walking them. doing the grooming and all of the other barn work you had to do along the way to become a trainer. i worked on a breeding farm for a year to get that aspect of the business. i also worked for at least 2 years as a assistant trainer before i even thought about getting my own license. you have to do just about everything with the horses , so you know what you will have to do as a trainer. getting to know about the feeding and training is very important to know. leg care and how to spot lameness is a must in this business . so if you are serious about becoming a trainer, then you have a long hard road ahead of you, but it is well worth the effort it will take to become a trainer.  hope this helps you  thanks ED HESS

Expertise

Have trained thoroughbreds for 30 odd years. Have been a licensed trainer for that long of time. I continue to train my race horses and thoroughly enjoy every day.

Experience

Experience: Licensed trainer for over 30 yrs. Have had lots of winners in all different types of races - from bottom claimers to top quality stakes winners. My best money winner was Aristocratic Cross (multiple stakes winner). My best claiming horse was Navajo Family, winner of 12 races in one year. I still enjoy racing a modest stable of horses each year.
