Experience:
Licensed trainer for over 30 yrs. Have had lots of winners in all different types of races - from bottom claimers to top quality stakes winners. My best money winner was Aristocratic Cross (multiple stakes winner). My best claiming horse was Navajo Family, winner of 12 races in one year. I still enjoy racing a modest stable of horses each year.
Question I have a chance to purchase a thoroughbred horse that has a bone chip. It is a horse will come from the rescue mission stables. The horse is about 3 - 4 years old. My question is that my 10 year old daughter has fallen in love with this horse and really wants it for her own. I am willing to pay $1000.00 for this horse. I am just waiting for our local vet to take some x-rays to see how bad his leg is. Can a horse recover from a chipped bone and be able to ride trails and jump over low fences?
Answer hi yes a race horse can recover form a bone chip as long as it is not caused a lot of internal damage in the knee joint. your vet will be able to tell you as soon as he see's the x-rays. i have had plenty of race horses that i have placed with people looking for a riding horse and as long as your vet ok's the leg, you should be fine.. hope that helps you thanks ED HESS
