Question
my younger siter who is 8 got her first pony in october, her name is buttercup and she is a 13.2 14years welsh type pony she is an angel in a small paddock/arena but when she goes into a big field she takes off like a rocket doing cat leaps when she is held back, then she runs back to her stabble or back to the other horses , I think something has scared her but I dont know how to stop her doin this, she dosnt get much hard feed just a quarter scoop of muesli.3

Answer
Hello Annie!
At the barn that I am, we have a pony who does the EXACT same thing. I think Buttercup is simply co-dependant, which means she is missing her buddies. She probly feels safer in a smaller arena, as she is more closed in and feels more at home. However, in a bigger ring, she may feel threatened and is scared to be alone.
The best thing to do, is to work with her more and more, alone, away from other horses.
The pony we have, well we tried taking him to a show, and he went crazy. He almost brought himself to stress colic, because he was so afraid, and co dependant.

He is much better now thow, because we worked him alot, alone, and we can take him down the trail all by himself and he is amazing!

Well, good luck!
