Question
Hi my name is kayla i am 14 yrs old. i have been riding since i was 2 and taking lessons for about 5 yrs i rode dressage for me majority of that time. For the last year i have been at a hunter/jumper stable where the horse i rode at the dressage barn was sold to.(i love him alot so i moved to a new barn) He is a 17yr old 15h chestnut qh gelding he is very spooky so not many people like to ride him anymore. I ride all sorts of horses the tallest a 17h thoroughbred which didnt seem at tall in the saddle as on the ground. The youngest was my aunts 2yr old rocky mountain(gaited horse)which had only been under saddle for 20days and it had better manners than some of the horses i ride.At my barn i take lessons once a week and dont always ride jack(the qh) if we are jumping alot i cant really use him because for the last couple weeks he completly refuses to jump like he used to. his legs are fine we got him all checked out so the next time the vet comes we are going to check his eyes. anyway when i rode with a girl named rachel we would jump about 2ft not high at all. now i ride with a girl in highschool who is not exactly where i am at. i have only seen her jump crossrails. now that i ride with her that is all we seem to do. i dont mind it but i dont even get to jump verticals anymore. with rachel we jumped oxers and all that fun stuff with the high school girl we dont even jump everyday. and im not saying i soooo good i cant ride with her i really dont mind i would just like to be doing more. but i plan on going to an equestrian college and all that riding is like my life. with only doing flat work and cross rails do you think i will get more advanced with jumping as far as height goes. i would like to at least be jumping 2'6''-3'ft by the end of this year with is not that much. i have jumped it before. but i dont feel like i am improving at all only doing the things we are doing. i mean i no my position and how to lengthen and shorten and all that i did that for 4yrs at my dressage barn it is differnt doing hunters but i would like to jump alot more...do you think i will reach my 2'6''-3tf goal by the end of this year??
((im not sure if anything i wrote made since i just wrote down what i was thinking))

well thank you
-*kayla

Answer
Hello Kayla,
If you would like to reach that goal, you would need to practice jumping that height around twice a week. You should try to explain to your friend how you feel, and explain to her exactly what your objective is...she will probably understand.
I think that if you practice jumping twice per week, you will be jumping well by the end of the year.
Thanks for the question!
