Question
Hi Sarah, my name is Jenna.  I own an arabianxthouroughbredxaustralian riding pony
mare and she is an angel in the arena and the jumping paddocks, but for some
reason as soon as she goes into a big bare paddock she goes bananas, eg -
dancing, roaching, crapping sideways etc because she wants to go fast/gallop and
i don't know what to do.  She is the same whether she is by herself or with
another horse, and she is fine when she is turned out in the paddock, and i also
ride her in paddocks she doesn't live in and she is the same.

I also have a quarter horse mare, and when i am cantering her in a circle on her
proper leads for some reason she will just do a flying change.  And she is not
dressage trained.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Jenna,

1)  When turning her out to field, during the actual process of walking leading and turning her out does she ever try to bolt?  Does any slap her rear or shout, or motion wildly when releasing her in the field?    Does she ever get turned out with other horses?  Does she typically get turned out in the day or at night?  Please get back to me on these questions I have for you and I can give you a better incite to her behavior and how to fix it.

2)  Is she swapping leads when she circles in one direction only or both directions?  Does she swap back to the correct lead ever?  Again, if you could please answer these questions I can better help you.

Thank you,
Sarah
