Question I am an Eventer and have evented up to training schooled up to intermediate. My horse is a 17.3 HH Thoroughbred turning 12 this year. His hind left shows some weakness in it and i cannot tell whether its in his hip, hock, ankle etc. but when i do the extended trot it really shows up. I have been riding in my County Saddle and i love it, but by the end of my ride the fleeseworks pad is slid to the right in the back and the end of the pad is underneath the left panel. Is there anyway that it could be pinching him and irritating his left back muscle? and that it could be making him lame in the left hind? i don't know what else it could be because he doesn't have any heat or swelling. Please let me know what you think.
Answer It is possible.... try a damp leather chamois under the saddle pad to hold it in place better and see if that helps.
I'd sooner think it's something else though. Have you considered having a chiropractor or acupressure therapist taking a look at him?
Try putting him somewhere quiet without distraction and firmly pressing your knuckles along his spine. Pay attention to his reaction. If you find tail swishing, stomping, or head tossing, then chances are he's in need of some alternative therapies.
