Question Hi,i have a horse that bites my 1 year colt real bad.he has a bunch of pieces taken out of his trunk.i really dont know if is better to leave my colt separate or along with the other horses so he can learn how to protect himself.i feel bad cause he has a lot of bites..
Answer Hi, sorry for the delay in answering.....
If there is one horse in particular that is aggressive toward your colt, it may be better to separate them. You don't want him to end up getting more seriously injured.
Now, if they are smaller bites, just skin - it MAY be just horses getting used to their heiarchy in the herd......but it doesn't sound like that from your description. Especially being only 1 year old, the colt is more prone to being submissive toward the older horses.
Next, you have to figure out if you want to separate the aggressive horse, or the colt- your set up will determine that.
