Horses/standing from the seat at canter

hello, a young rider was instructed to stand and ride his stead while cantering. may i know why? what is the purpose of standing from the seat while cantering?

Standing in the stirrups while cantering can help with balance, control of the horse, many things.  It is a good exercise to practice once you are comfortable at a canter. Depending on the style of ridingyou are doind, this can increase the control you have not only over the horse, but over your own body as the horse is moving.
