Horses/massaging horse cannon bones with spirit

Question
Hi. An urgent question please. May I know why to massage on the horse cannon bones covering their tendons with spirit? Especially on forelegs.

Answer
Rohit,

First off, the cannon bones do not cover the tendons.  The tendons run along the back of the leg behind the cannon bone.  If by spirit you mean liniment it simply helps stimulate circulation in the area.  Make sure you massage up the leg, towards the heart, not down.  The forelegs carry 75% of the horse's weight which is why you see more stress related problems in the forelegs than the hind legs.
