Question
Hi i am working with a 2.5 year old and i have been lounging him and i think he is doing well hes a very calm horse and has had a saddle put on him and he did well, my question is how do i no when its time to get on his back?

Answer
Keep saddling him again and again.  After several sessions of this, if he is still calm, you can go ahead and try to mount him from a block.  Don't force him too hard or too fast.  He will need time to adjust to the sensation of your weight on his back.  Think in the terms, "baby steps".  There is no true magic recipe for all horses when you begin this process.  Each horse needs his own time to adjust and feel comfortable with the introduction of a rider.  I strongly encourage all horsemen working with green horses to seek assistance from another local trainer even if he/she is a trainer themselves.  I often find that having two minds asses the situation can provide a safe and logical learning progression for the horse.
