I have over 20 years experience in the showring, and have broken and schooled on all my own horses. I have schooled on many horses that have been classed as difficult to handle, or dangerous to ride. These horses havre gone on to be calm, well mannered, and are successful in showing homes, and as happy hackers.

Education/Credentials

Question
hi i have just been offered a 16hh 6 yo horse on loan for free but he needs a lot of work done ,in your opinion do you think that i shouold start from the begginning re-training him completely and working on my relationship with him first so he knows i he can trust me ,then start lunging him like he was just getting broken in? he is really un-fit and he bucks thank you for your time

Hi Louise,

Well, first let me say good luck with this boy....and yes, do go right back to the beginning with him, exactly the right thing to do, work on bonding with him, and then start working with him.

It'll be long and hard, but worth it in the end!  Also, make sure you get a full vet check done, and you are aware of any underlying health issues he may have.  Make sure as well that you have a properly signed BHS loan Agreemenent, so that you, the horse, and his owner are all protected....make sure you know how much he will cost in livery ect, and exactly what you are
responsible for.
