Horses - Behavior Issues, Breaking and Training - farrier

Expert: Lauren - 11/4/2009

Question
I've had a ten year old gelding now for seven months. I've worked with him, three trainers have worked with him and even my farrier spent time with him. He's well mannered until he is asked to pick up his hoofs, I have been unable to have his hoofs trimed. I'm not about to give up on him, any advice for me and/or the horse?  Thanks Mare

Answer
rewars him lots wen he does pick up his hoof...even if its an inch of the ground, hold it for 5-10 seconds then you put it down not him then reward him then again..maybe with another foot...just keep doing that and eventually he will relate picking his feet up with praise and reward...i think he is just scared about what your going to do...grt your farrier to do the same so he trusts your farrier too..

hope it helps!
