Horses - Diet and Nutrition/wheat bran making horse drink water

hello ma'am. may i know how come wheat bran makes a horse drink more water?

Hi Rohit,

Thank you for your question.  A horse's water intake will vary depending on the ingredients in the diet.  Fiber-rich diets will encourage more water consumption, and bran is mostly fiber.  Horses will drink quite a bit right after eating, so perhaps it also appears as though they're drinking a lot as soon as they're done their bran.

Thanks, Corlena
