House Plants - Peace Lily

Expert: Darlene K. Kittle - 10/28/2009

Question
Why would the leaves on my Peace Lily curl downwards and it will not bloom either

Answer
Cheryl,

The leaves are turning down either because you are keeping it too wet or too dry. Feel the soil and you sohould know which. It is probably too wet. This plant likes to get totally dry between waterings. It does not like to be kept too wet.

It takes a rest from blooming this time of year when the days are getting shorter. If it has already not been blooming for 2 months or longer you can try giving it some water soluable fertilizer for blooming plants available at most garden centers or Walmart and give it 1 tablespoon of Epsom salts sprinkled on top of the soil for every 6" of pot diameter then water the epsom salts into the soil. Epsom salts is magnesium sulfate and that will trigger blooming plants to bloom within 2 months. Good luck.

Darlene
