House Plants - Mass Cane

Expert: Darlene K. Kittle - 11/5/2009

Question
I live in S W Florida, but grew up in the midwest. Many of the outdoor landscape plants here were my houseplants in the midwest, that I had to bring in every winter...my neighbor has a huge and tall mass cane, yesterday I saw her cutting it back. I ask her if I could have a couple cuttings. I brought them in the house set the the two 3' tall cuttings in a large watering can with about 6" of water, now what do I do??? thanks, Linda

Answer
Linda,

Try to figure out which end of each cane goes down and get a pot of soil then dip the bottom end in rooting hormone and insert it in the pot of soil. Then set the pot back outside in the same type location it was used to in her yard. Sun if it was in the sun and shade if it was in the shade. Then treat it like a plant. Water it when the soil is dry or outside leave a drain tray off and just let the rain water it unless it is too dry. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck.

Darlene
