Question
how do i care for an anthurium plant.  i had one and it died shortly after my husband feed it.  this was a small one and a local store has large ones which i have asked for one for my birthday.  if their still there i know i will get one.

Answer
Hello Doris,

Lucky you having such a kind husband!! IF it is indeed he who will be buying you the plant you desire!

Hopefully it will be an A.scherzerianum as these are a little easier to grow than the A. andreanum.

Whichever it is they like light but no summer sun, they should be watered quite frequently to keep the soil most but do not waterlog the roots.  Mist the leaves frequently to keep the air humid, sponge the leaves clean and repot when you think it is necessary in the spring. Feed the plant twice a month but make sure to follow the instructions carefully as too much fertiliser is just as bad as none at all.

With good care your plant should reward you with many flowers extending over several months.

Diana
