Question I have a water softener in my home, and I'm fairly certain it affects my house plants in an adverse way, so what do you recommend to "repair" the water before I pour it on my house plants?
Answer Hi Gwen,
You are right, water softeners add mineral salts to your water and those salts are not good for potted plants.
I suggest that you use filtered (Brita), distilled or rain water instead. Reverse osmosis water purifiers also are very effective. There are no chemicals that you can add to the softened water to counteract the softeners.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
