Question Dear Shirley,
I am an MBA in HR from a reputed Indian Business School and I have around four years experience in HR field in handling a generalist profile. So far in my career I have worked with reputed MNC's but I still feel that professionally I am lacking something. I need your assistance in understanding how to fill in the gap?
I have gone through your profile and know that you are PHR certified. I am a member of SHRM and am interested in exploring the certifications that they offer. Also keeping one more thing in mind, that my husband and I are interested in migrating to Canada very soon.
I want to know that pursuing which higher studies in the HR field will give me an added advantage once I am in Canada and will help me find a job that will commensurate with my expectations. I am quite aware that Indian education is not very much valued in Canada if one wants to work over there. Therefore keeping all that in mind can u guide me which course shall I pursue?
Thanks for your time.
Regards
Manmeet
Answer The PHR is a US Certification. I am not sure how it is viewed in Canada. I know that in the HR field one of the fastest growing need is that of the benefits administrator. Pensions and insurance are becoming huge and many companies are hiring those knowledgeable in benefits because they need someone with expertiese in this aspect of HR.
Canada has an agency called Canadian Council of Human Resource Associations. They offer CHRP certification which is similar to the PHR offered by SHRM in the states. Their web site it at http://www.cchra.ca/Web/certification/content.aspx?f=29789.
SHRM does has a GPHR which is Global Professional Human Resources certification.
