Question Our employee has an court order for community service. The employee wants to fulfill this obligation by working at his/her regular job (hospital reception) as a volunteer doing similar duties to that for which they get paid while on duty. I thought I read an employee may NOT volunteer if the nature of the work is the same as their regular duties. True of false?
Answer Kris:
Based only on the info you provided: TRUE - One may NOT volunteer to work at their current job.. for most ANY reason.
I mean really- what kind of person volunteers to do community service by going back to their normal work and does nothing different for THE COMMUNITY ? There are parks to be mowed, litter to be picked up, great volunteer groups that teach youth and need lots of help, handiwork like painting or scrubbing graffiti, food pantries, meals on wheels, shelters, women's centers, churches, membership and volunteer groups and on and on. These all need volunteers.
