Human Resources - Career Advice Required

Expert: Umesh Chaudhary - 7/22/2009

Question
Dear Mr. Umesh,
I request your thoughts and guidance regarding my career. By qualification I am a BE (Electronics & Communication), PGDBM - HR (UK). I am currently working as a Lead HR Business Partner with a Financial Information company in Bangalore and have nearly 5 years professional experience.

I am interested in pursuing my education further but not sure which avenue to proceed. Upon consultation with a couple of my friends, they informed to pursue a course in Law or Intellectual Property Rights Law. There are 2 courses MBL (Master of Business Laws) & PGDIPRL respectively that are awarded by the National Law School in Bangalore.

Please can you guide me which would be a better option to choose?

Thanks & Regards,
Ravi

Answer
Dear Ravi,

Hope you're doing fine.
These days I have seen people collecting degrees for the sake of having a highly paid job in a good company. But having a job in relevant profile should also have a relevant qualification. What's your career objective? Where exactly you see yourself ten years from now?

Best regards,
Umesh
