Human Rights - Aterny general takes my money

Expert: Richard Aberdeen - 9/28/2009

Question
I invested 500 dollars in an online business called Ad surf daily and the attorney  general claimed it was a ponzi scheme and took all the money from them with no explanation to me. this was 2 years ago I can't get answers from them after calling and emailing. I get such a run around by giving me a number to call and that person says no and I should call this number and so on. I have no money for a lawyer. What can I do? Thank you.

Answer
If you invested a small amount of money, then I recommend that you chock it up to a learning experience that quick easy money being made on the interenet, although it has been done, does not happen very often for most people.  If you invested a large amount of money, then you might consider first earning enough money and then going after them with an attorney, that is, if they have any tangible assets.  I don't recommend suing people in court, as the civil law game typically results most of the time, in the courts, lawyers and judges making a good living while both plantiffs and defendants make little and often lose a lot more than they ever collect, even when they "win" their case.

As a word of caution from my own experience, there are legitimate ways to earn income on the internet, but legitimate methods typically require a great deal of time and effort on your part, the same as any other business.  I myself own a profitable internet-based company, which required up to 120 hrs per week for several years to establish, including several years of face to face sales on the ground in the greater Los Angeles area.  Only after several years of face face sales was I able to slowly gravitate towards becoming profitable with an internet-based buisness; I no longer sell face to face, but reaching that point was a long slow process involving working 2-3 times as many hours as I would as a regular employee for another company.

There is a vast difference between earning income legitimately and earning "easy" money based on some supposedly tried and true simplistic scheme.  Most legitimate income one earns from their own business efforts requires as much or more effort on their part, than it does working for somebody else as an employee.  I have two brothers who own a moving and storage company and after being in business over 30 years, even though they no longer lift furniture, they still work up to 15 hrs per day 6-7 days per week.
