About Le Anne Clausen
Expertise
I can answer questions about human rights work as a vocation, human rights as they pertain to the Middle East and/or Muslim world, particularly Palestine/Israel, Iraq, and Afghanistan. While in Iraq, I helped to investigate prisoner abuses, including those at Abu Ghraib. I can also answer questions on women's rights in the Middle East. I cannot give you legal advice.

Experience
I was a human rights worker for four years in the Middle East, including Palestine, Israel, and Iraq. I also participated in a human rights delegation to Afghanistan in summer 2005. I have an MA in Christian-Muslim relations, with special study on women's issues; I also worked one year for an Arab women's grassroots human rights organization. I am currently working to build an interfaith peace-teams based human rights organization

Human Rights - state laws, wages

Expert: Le Anne Clausen - 2/1/2007

Question
i dont know if this is the right place, but it's the closest i can get..

minumum wage just got passed to $7.15, 3 weeks before that i got a raise from $6.75 to $7.00, then minumum wage went up.. i lost the raise and am making as much as all others at McDonalds,

my question is, when wages go up, am i supposed to get my raise on top of the raise from wages being hired?
because my friend started 6 months ago, i started 9, and he is making more then me because he got a raise after wages went up..
can you help me out here?

Answer
Greetings Brian, and thanks for your question.  Unfortunately, this is not my area of expertise.  I tend to think common sense would be in your favor though.  You might try the Dept of Labor, http://www.dol.gov/compliance/topics/wages-minimum-wage.htm

They have a hotline at the end of the page, and a lot of web resources that may help.

I hope this helps!  Good luck!
