About Mongo
Expertise
I can answer most basic questions concerning predator trapping and some water trapping. Questions about lures, baits, sets, traps, trap treatment, modification, sizes, equipment, usage, etc. I have been certified by the Okla. Dept. of Wildlife Conservation, First Okla. Trapper`s Assoc., and the Okla. State Univ. Extension Service as a trapping instructor, and in years past have given classes to people wishing to learn the sport...I also have a number of years experience in predator calling and can provide some basic answers to these questions as well.

Experience

Past/Present clients
As far as teaching what I know to others. I take this to be what you mean here... I have helped my son, and son in law, as well as a number of others in this area, to get started in trapping and predator calling... I have had personal instruction from professional government ADC specialists, and I have 30 years experience running my own traplines, and over a half century of experience in the outdoors...... I have a friend who is a troop leader with the Boy Scouts. In the past I have done several demonstrations on trapping and predator calling for the boys, and on a number of occasions have helped the troop to set up and run a trapline during the winter, with proceeds going to the troop.

Answer
Hello Pam,

Well, actually I know very little about "collectable" traps or the values of them. So I must apologize on that. My expertise is in the sport of trapping itself... But I do know that some of those old traps bring respectable dollars at some antique auctions. You just might be pleasantly surprised... Something else here is that often at garage sales and flea markets people sell things they have no idea of the true value of... In years gone by I have bought traps I really didn't need at such places, simply because they were selling at a small fraction of their actual worth. But, on the other hand, I have seen traps worth only 2 to 4 dollars carrying price tags of 25 or 30 dollars...all of this just because most people have no actual idea of their true worth... Now, I am talking about useable traps here. But I am sure the same thing happens with antiques.

Like I say, I can't personally help you with this, but I can give you a couple places you can check that may be able to help... Many of the trappers supply houses buy and sell collectable traps... Here is one of the larger ones that does or did... STERLING FUR AND TOOL COMPANY, 11268 Frick Road, Sterling OH. phone number: 330-939-3763... They may be able to help you or direct you to someone who can.... And then there is the AMERICAN TRAP COLLECTORS Forum. You will probably have to join the forum to ask. However, I'd bet that someone there can help you... And another you might want to try is ...  http://dogcatcherboy.proboards12.com/index.cgi

Like I said, I am sorry that I can not help you any more than this...but the places I listed may be able to.

Good luck with it,

Mongo
