QUESTION: Dear Kent,

sorry to trouble you again......I have finally purchased the gas operated Browning gold fusion evolve and although I have only fired a dozen of shots with it I have nothing to complain about....but when it comes to cleaning I am at a loss....as I have never had a gas operated gun before....what solution/chemical is best to use to cleanse its gas operated parts....those parts that get dirty I mean....sincerely hoping to hear from you soon I thank you in advance.

ANSWER: I'm betting that you have a lot of different products in Malta than what I have here.  I just use a good powder solvent to clean my Beretta.  There's a newer foaming barrel cleaner that I like too. I block one end of the barrel with paper tissue, and fill it with the foam.  I later clean it out with a swab. I put a light coating of oil on metal parts when I store the gun for the season.

what is a powder solvent....my problem is not the barrel but the gas operating parts.....piston etc....with what should i cleanse them please...kindly quote chemical name is possible.

I checked the bottles today at a large gun store, and they didn't list the specific ingredients.  Just said, "petroleum distillates."  Must be their "secret formula."  The top three brands were:  Hoppes #9, Birchwood Casey Gunscrubber (foaming), Shooter's Choice, and Breakfree Powder Blast.  Really, any good powder solvent will do the job.
