Question can you hunt deer with an AR-15 .223 as far as texas state law goes? and if you can would that be a good gun to use or not?
Answer I don't know if Texas allows that caliber or not. I live in South Dakota. You would have to check with your Texas Dept. of Fishygame. I have twice hunted deer with a .223, and went back to my .30-06. The first deer I shot with the .223 needed to be hit several times to go down and it ruined a lot of meet. This was a small doe. The second was a very nice buck. I hit it in the chest and it ran off. The .223 didn't leave any blood trail, and I never found the deer. I don't really advise using a .223 even if it's legal. The smallest caliber I know is effective is a .243.
