About Marcus Doyle
Expertise
Questions about the general breed and temperament of Siberian Huskies. Also, I have had great experience in training them to be, well, a little less crazy. Nothing is a substitute for good research and training, but Husky owners are a special breed, and I can help in passing along some of that information. I do not breed my dogs, they are just companion animals. I encourage that breeding be left to professionals and members of the SHCA. The SHCA can provide great information in helping fellow breeders and I am unable to answer all but the most basic of questions regarding breeding.

Experience
Own two pure-bred Siberian Huskies (Karnovanda). Casual owner, but a love and understanding of the breed can be helpful in getting to the right resources.

Question
QUESTION: Hi Mark,
I also own 1 pure bred male siberian husky(Karnovanda as well) and my husband and I want to get another one.  We want to get a female from Karnovanda.  My only concern is that I will lose the precious bond that I have with my dog, Barrow.  Am I being selfish?  I know he wants a playmate( he is about 13 months.  He is a great dog and I would love for him to have a friend, am I just being paranoid?  What is your take on 2 dogs?

ANSWER: Carly,

Getting a second dog is a great idea, and to say that things won't change is definitely to be deluding yourself, but they might not change in the ways you might think.  A first dog (who is used to being the only canine) does usually develop a different bond with human owners, because they are his only companionship.  Adding a new dog will relieve some of the dependency, but my first dog (Mika) and I have a great bond that the addition of Shadow (our second dog and the male) didn't alter.  Instead, they just go play together, but Mika and I still can play together and Shadow often looks on with a questioning look of "How do you play with humans like that?"

Just curious - did you get your dogs from Judy?  My two both have the same father - Thunder Rogue.  Just curious where your dogs fall in line.

Good luck!

QUESTION: Hi,
I did get my dogs from Judy!  My first dog (Barrow) who is the male and our new pup that we expect to get the 2nd week in July(Nukka)is the female.  They both have the same mother, Desdimona.  Barrow's father is Talesin and Nukkas father is Sirius Black.  I am so excited!  I am going to do all that I can to keep that bond with him.  Thank you so much.  Your advice helped me figure out what I need to do!  I can't wait to see them play!

Answer
That's great - although I can't believe Talesin is having pups.  :p  I remember when he was born (right after Shadow).  But that's great - enjoy them!  And one bit of advice, keep up the training with Barrow, and maybe have your husband work more with Nukka in training her.  Having one person be "responsible" for the dog can help the adjustment period of getting a second dog.  If you need anything, feel free to write.
