Question
Hi Michelle, my name is mizraim, i have a 15 month old male husky, i live in houston tx, and right now its very hot here, im wondering what i can do to help him against the heat during the day as he is a outside dog, or will he be okay if i just let him be, my sister suggested shaving or triming his hair, but i was against it, what should i do? thank you -miz-

Answer
Please do not shave your dog. The coat protects againced the heat as well as the cold. Just bring him into a groomer so his coat works properly (remove all the dead coat). Put out a kiddy pool or 2 so he can stand in the water to cool off. Give him pleanty of water, a good shelter that has alot of room for air flow (if it is big enought to put the pool in with him and he has an area to lay down out of the pool is the best.

More reasons not to shave your husky.
The coat protects the skin againced the sun, removing the coat would make him easy to sun burn and increase the chances of getting skin cancer.

The coat will take 2 or 3 years the grow back properly, if it even does in most cases the coat never grows back all the way.

Thanks! Any more questions just ask!
-Michelle B
