Question
Dear Bob

Do yo feel there should be a Road Traffic Rule for Driving Age Upper Limit i.e. Old people who are above 65 and Above should not be allowed to drive private and self owned vehicles ?.

Do you feel because of old age eyesight, the chances of accidents happening might be more o the road and because of this Road Traffic Office should come out with this rule of prohibiting them to drive vehicles on the road ?.

Awaiting your reply,

Thanks & Regards,
Prashant S Akerkar

Answer
Aging produces even more variety than youth, so a definite number is not the answer.  One 95 year old American woman whose licence had been cancelled some years before recently went through the whole testing sequence again successfully.  I have known several aging drivers who compensated successfully and realistically without encouragement.  Statistically, I don't think they are a major hazard. If the insurance experts put their rates at the top of the scale, public interest would suggest re-testing, but you'd have to find the numbers.
