Subject: hypertension and fatigue

Question
I recently went to my doctor because of extreme fatigue episodes. I also told him I was concerned about my elevated BP..It varies from a low of 136/83 to high of 170/92. I check it several times a day at home.
He prescribed Microzide 12.5mg ,so far it hasn't helped and I've been on it for about a month.
I also take Armour thyroid 90mg for hypothyroidism, Metformin 500mg for PCOS, and Prometrium 100mg.
I am concerned because during the day, I can do a little work and then get very fatigued, just like someone pulled the plug on me..
I've been taking the armour for about two years now , after discovering a goiter which at times is still pretty large.
Could the fatigue be partially caused by the hypertension?

Answer
Sorry to hear you are feeling poorly.  Hypertension does not cause fatigue, but your physician can adjust the dosage of your microzide or change to a different drug to address the hypertension.  The most likely cause of fatigue in a patient with the symptoms described due to the underlying throid disease.  Your physician will want to investigate that possibility and may want to adjust the dose of your thyroid mediciation. Take care!
