Hypertension - Lisinopril

Expert: Domenic Sica - 5/27/2009

Question
I have recently started taking Lisinopril 20/HCL25 during the daytime and Lisinopril 20 at bedtime.  I have been waking up during the night with severe leg cramps and then have headache during the day along with a cough.  Could the dosage be too high causing these symptoms or what else may I take to counteract the cramps and headache?
Thanks.
Kay

Answer
The cough can occur with lisinopril in a dose-independent manner. The other symptoms are either a direct side-effect from the lisinopril or because your blood pressure is too low. You need to speak with your physician and see if he can make adjustments to the regimen.

Regards,

Domenic Sica, M.D.
