Question I am a 68 year old woman with high blood pressure and take Cozaar,Triamterene/hctz.I was taking Metaprolol to slow down the pulse and heart rate, but developed a bad cough,so I gradually tapered down and the cough went away.My problem is that without the Metaprolol,my pulse and heart rate are high again,so it appears I need something to slow them down.Is there a Beta Blocker,or something else that I could take that wo'nt cause that cough?
Answer Hi Bernice,
I am surprised the cough was caused by the metoprolol unless ofcourse you have chronic lung disease. It is far more common to associate a cough with cozaar. There are other beta blockers that could be tried. Unless there is a contraindication, calcium channel blockers can lower heart rate also.
