Question I am an obese, 66 year old female with high blood pressure, and
atrial fibulation. I am on 240mg. capsule of diltiazem and a 325mg. aspirin daily. I have heard that a calcium channel blocker medication may cause heart disease. Is this true? Is a 325mg. aspirin too much?
Answer Calcium channel blockers do not cause heart disease. Instead they are extremely effective therapies for managing a wide range of heart disease and are particularly good at lowering blood pressure in the patient with hypertension. 325-mg of aspirin is not too much; however, if you are having side-effects with this dose of aspirin you should talk to your doctor about reducing the dose to 81-mg/day.
