Question Hi, My husband is 42 yrs old with hypertension. Hes always been active and healthy with the exception of his hypertension. He takes diovan hct 160/12.5 mg daily. Bp has been controlled this way with his bp being like 130/85. about 6 mos ago he got extremely dizzy and felt faint however he didnt pass out. Bp jumped to 180/90 but returned to normal w/o intervention. 4 wks ago he started feeling dizzy and bp slowly moved up to 140/90 even while taking the meds but didn't always stay that high. on a really relaxing night(around 2 am) his right arm starts to throb and it started in the forearm but quickly involved his wrist and shoulder; bp was 210/115 hr was 90bpm. he was dizzy, confused, and right eye was throbbing. He took an aspirin and settled down some but the bp never went back down to normal. Next day bp is still elevated, dizzy, right arm and eye are throbbing and he's just not himself. went to dr but by then most of symptoms are gone except for eye and arm pain. we see neurologist, had mri, emg and ct of brain and nothing showed. on a beta blocker now(bystolic) but arm pain didnt leave. They think it may be a silent migraine. granted he does not and has not ever suffered from headaches. no family history of this. arm pain is now being called carpal tunnel which he never has done repetitve work nor was the pain slow and progressive. its like that night a switch was turned on and it never went off. He also has peripheral vision deficit from the episode. all of these symptoms are still present even though bp is now finally regulated with the new beta blocker. there has been about 15 episodes of this right sided throbbing and dizziness and it has altered how we live bc theres no pattern to the occurences. Hes 6 ft, 185 lbs.could it be silent migraines? TIA maybe? SIlent migraines and carpal tunnel isnt sitting well with me. one more thing during all of this is HR has been fine even when the bp is elevated. any information would be helpful- should we see cardiologist? would TIA show after the fact? Thank You
Answer This is a confusing picture that is difficult to make sense of in this type forum. My best advice is to be seen at a major medical center that would have more expertise in such complicated matters. What part of the country are you living in ?
