Hypochondria - Concerned about heart in excess

Follow-Ups to Answer from Expert Tony Crammond

If SVT is suspected then a referral to a cardiologist is in order. Though in most cases SVT will not cause a life threatening rhythm, an electrophysiology study during a cardiac cath can show if there are abnormal pathways causing the fast firing rhythm. If found (and not too close to the natural pacing nodes) the anomolous area can be ablated so that it no longer interferes with the correct pacing of the heart.
