Question I can't get the caliper piston to compress. It is not frozen because it will move forward when the parking brake is moved. Since the parking brake is connected to the caliper, is there something there that I need to do to free the piston?
Answer The caliper piston screws back into the caliper; you won't be able to simply push it back in. The two slots in the caliper piston are there for the insertion of a special tool with pins. Many parts houses and your local Sears should have a tool for doing this, usually a cube which has each face with a set of pins spaced differently for different size pistons and an 3/8" drive square hole in each face for using your ratchet. More professional models have discs with pins that install on a screw-operated tool that compresses the caliper.
