About Joerg Droege
Expertise
I can answer all questions regarding ICQ except those like: "I have lost my password, how do I get it back?" because I am not an ICQ Team member, so I cannot do anything about lost passwords.

Experience
I did an education as a Management Assistant in Informatics, I am using ICQ since ICQ2000b, but of course I know the current ICQ client the best. I also use the new ComPad ICQ client.

Education/Credentials
Management Assistant in Informatics education under the control of the CCI (Chamber of Commerce and Industry).

Question
Hi there!
Would you please kindly explain step by step how do I add my existing account onto the new downloaded icq6?
I have tried to add my account by selecting "new account" just below clicking on "new account" which is located below "account" just before logging in, however it does not give an option to actually use my existing account, which I have on my laptop with an older version of icq. I would like to use the same icq number on this new computer which now has icq6.

I would appreciate your prompt reply!

Cheers.

Answer
Hello Tasha!

Thanks for your question!

You cannot do that as older ICQ versions are switched off. If you try also to connect to the network with them, it will tell a message "You need to download the latest version in order to be able to continue using ICQ".

They do this to keep the ICQ network secure! ICQ 2003b for example has a security hole that allows others to access to your PC! See: http://nafcom.blogspot.com/2006/09/security-hole-in-icq2003b.html

Please update your installation there to latest build of ICQ6: http://www.icq.com/download/icq6

Hope this helps!
All the best!
Bye!
Joerg
